Hello Freshers of 2014/15,
I’m Lucy, and in September I’ll be heading into my second year at QM to continue reading for a BA in Geography. To say I am excited is a complete understatement as, throughout the whole summer, I’ve been suffering with severe uni withdrawal; a condition I am certain you’ll be able to empathise with next year!
This feels really bizarre. Blogging to all of you when it was only last year I was using Springboards myself, it feels a bit daunting. However, I am up to challenge and I’m hoping that my recent first year experience will benefit you with any of your worries about the transition from college/sixth form to university.
Over the course of the project I’ll be documenting my last year of shenanigans from my first night away from home to my very last drapers of the academic year (believe me, it’s surprising how attached you become to our beloved SU bar, but more on that later!) with the hope you’ll read it and maybe even enjoy it. I’ll also be reviewing and telling you about all the fabulous places in East London you should visit over the year; you’ll soon snub the idea of travelling to the West End when you discover some of the East End’s hidden gems! Now, about myself…
A cricket obsessed, life-long vegetarian, I’ve always been one who wanted to have all the answers and understand the world; my theory has always been, if you can understand the world, you’ll be able to solve the world’s problems. So, go figure that I wound up studying geography, right? It wasn’t always on my agenda to be perfectly honest, but I’m glad I’ve ended up at the right destination!
Before coming to QM, I played lots of sport representing my school in Netball, Hockey and Basketball, also playing Netball for my town in my spare time; I find that really weird as I wouldn’t say I’m the conventional build for a sportswoman, particularly a netballer, being 5ft 2. I took a break from sport in first year as I have been playing netball for approximately 10 years, so I thought a break would be beneficial, but have discovered how much I miss it; so, for any of you girls who are considering doing netball this year, I’ll see you at trials!
I hope this introduction, despite being longer than I expected (they will get shorter, I promise!), will encourage you to get involved with the project. Alice, Kana and I will be here day and night over all our social media platforms to answer all your questions truthfully and get you prepared for your life at QM.
Good luck with results everyone, I’ll see you in September!
