A friend and I last year went for a walk down Mile End Road; we wanted to go to a record store on Brick Lane to get a break from revision. On our way to Brick Lane we found “a diamond in the rough”. The Chicken Shop/Dirtyburger may be very unassuming in appearance but is actually a fantastic place for students to go and grab a bite to eat at a relatively cheap price. The added bonus is that it’s only a short distance from QM; a fifteen minute walk down Mile End road past Genesis Cinema.
From it’s vegetarian “Dirty Cop Out” burger to it’s “Full Dirty” fry-up, Dirtyburger can provide a filling meal for you and honestly some of the most delicious burgers on offer. If chicken is more your thing, then The Chicken Shop can certainly fulfil that requirement! What I particularly love about The Chicken Shop/Dirtyburger is how relaxed and cosy it is. With it only being a small space the room can be filled up quickly with various people from all walks of life.

All I can end this post on is, give it a try. There are so many fabulous hidden gems around the East End that some of you may not even experience till later on in your degree as, for a lot of London freshers, the touristy trance that the West End, for example, offer can inhibit you from exploring the local area, your home for the next academic year. You seriously have no clue what you’re going to find.
Hopefully for those of you who have had to move in over this weekend have found it to be a smooth transition, maybe this is somewhere you can take your new flatmates for brunch?
