Hey Freshers! Welcome to the wonderful QMUL School of Geography!
I’m Alex, a third year undergraduate student studying BA Geography. I’ve always been most interested in development geographies so have chosen modules surrounding that. The reason I chose QMUL in the first place was due to the amazing development lecturers and modules within the School of Geography (and the trips!).
I’m from South West London. Okay Richmond… It is in Zone 4 okay, it counts! As I lived within a certain distance of QMUL, I wasn’t offered halls accommodation in my first term. This meant that I commuted and managed to move on campus in the January through the waiting list.
The experience of commuting an hour and a half each way to university got me interested in how much attention is given to people moving across the country for university, not forgetting that us commuters need attention too! I will be writing a blog post about how to attack uni as a commuter- especially during Freshers week! Interestingly, around 50% of the School of Geography commute in first year!
After university… I hope to get into development in some way. I want to have a part in helping those in this world who aren’t as fortunate as we are. I think one of the most interesting things about studying geography is the vast array of careers it can guide you towards!
Welcome Week is coming up! I remember being so nervous in the time leading up to mine! The whole Springboards team are here for you, if you want any advice, or have questions, or just want to chat- remember we just went through it all!
Looking forward to meeting you!
